Break Cages, Not Promises

For decades, Unilever has positioned themselves as a global leader—present in millions of homes, shaping everyday choices around the world. They claimed progress. They made promises. They told consumers they were moving toward a more ethical future. Yet today, MORE THAN TWO MILLION HENS in Unilever’s supply chain are still trapped in cages—hidden behind familiar brands and polished marketing. Unilever once committed to going 100% cage-free globally by 2025. Instead of delivering, they walked it back—protecting hens in Europe and North America while abandoning millions more in the rest of the world.
We’re working to change that by holding Unilever accountable—because leadership means breaking cages, not breaking promises.
TO UNILEVER: YOU ARE IN EVERY HOME. BUT YOU ARE NOT DELIVERING THE SAME STANDARDS TO EVERYONE. WE DEMAND GLOBAL CHANGE, AND OUR COLLECTIVE VOICE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.
This is more than a campaign. It’s a stand against quiet backsliding, selective compassion, and inequity.
JOIN US IN THIS FIGHT: TAKE OFF THE MASK. LEAD CONSISTENTLY. AND HELP CREATE A FUTURE THAT ISN’T BUILT ON CAGES.

UNILEVER IS FAILING HENS

Unilever promised to source 100% cage-free eggs globally by 2025.

But in 2025, they abandoned that promise, removing their global target and limiting cage-free commitments to Europe and North America—leaving millions of hens behind in Latin America, Asia, and beyond.

While other global companies continue moving forward, Unilever is choosing selective ethics and unequal standards—profiting from animal suffering where consumers are least protected.

This isn’t just a broken promise.
It’s a deliberate decision to prioritize convenience and profit over consistency, compassion, and accountability.

It’s time for Unilever to restore their global commitment.

Consumers deserve a consistent, global standard from the brands they trust.

Demand Unilever Act Now.
Break the cages. Reinstate the promise. Eliminate extreme confinement—everywhere.

A GLOBAL FIGHT TO BREAK THE CAGES

The practice of confining animals in tiny cages is a global crisis. That is why our fight to eliminate them must be global too.

From the Americas to Asia, Mercy For Animals is leading coordinated global efforts to end this outdated practice. We are challenging the world’s largest companies to stop confining animals in tiny crates and cages—no matter the country, no matter the region.
